The Position

As a Residential Support Worker you will be responsible for supervision of persons served in a strength based, therapeutic environment that provides pro-social skills, cognitive behavioural approaches in conjunction with cultural awareness, case management plans, adult management assessments, motivation/encouragement, education and evaluation of adults, dynamic and static security to ensure safety of the community, adults and staff at the program. As a primary counselor for assigned adults, s/he is part of a multifunctional team that is able to recognize situations of risk and deal with them in a safe, procedural manner, ensuring a safe, nurturing environment.

In Your Role You Will:

  • Carry out tasks related, but not limited to:
  • Program Operations
  • Case Management
  • House Operations
  • Community Relations
  • Assist and support individuals with developing and achieving personal goals.
  • Ensure individuals basic needs are met, such as life skills and social/occupational skills.
  • Observe/document needs of individuals in service.
  • Encourage opportunities for social interaction within the community (vocational, recreational, leisure activities)
  • Drive individuals to appointments, day programs, community events, etc..
  • Contributes toward design, implementation and evaluation of individual service plans, Plan of Care, program specific policies & procedures.
  • Communicate/document information that relates to program changes/service recipient changes to peers, ministry representatives and other stakeholders as required.

Prior to confirmation of employment all applicants must provide clear Criminal and vulnerable sector Record Check, Child Abuse Registry Check and satisfactory reference check. These checks can take up to 6 weeks to obtain, please ensure you prepare accordingly.

Candidate must Possess

  • A degree or diploma in related humanities or social sciences
  • Minimum three years related experience
  • Current First Aid / CPR Certificates

Required Competencies:

  • Must complete training and orientation offered by the company or ministry
  • Must be orientated on fire evacuation, proper use of a fire extinguisher equipment and emergency procedures in the facility
  • Good interpersonal, written and oral communications and presentation skills
  • Ability to work independently and as a member of a team
  • Ability to foster, establish and maintain effective relationships with clients
  • Crisis intervention, Anger Management and Problem Solving skills are an asset
  • Motivational teachings, programming and teaching skills are helpful
  • Cooking and meal preparation skills are an asset
  • Computer skills are necessary
  • Valid class G driver’s license and proof of insurability as a driver
  • Standard First Aid Certificate and current CPR
  • Must be able to work shift work (12 hour shifts)
  • Must complete intake package upon hire and sign all necessary documents

MANDATORY

A valid Class 5 Driver License with clear driving abstract and reliable transportation

Mandatory Training:

After confirmation of employment, every member of the team must complete a 10 days training process called “Pilot program” with Ever Bright including:

Orientation to the Ever Bright mission statement and philosophy, Medication Administration and Proficiency, ASIST, Harm reduction, Trauma Informed Care, Abuse Prevention and Response Protocol, Lifestyle Planning, Positive Behavior Approaches and Restrictive Practices, Safe Management Training, First Aid & CPR, Professionalism, Food Safety Basic Course, Safe Bathing and Showering Training, WHMIS, Occupational Health and Safety Training
